what is contemporary alexander technique?

  • This somatic education is a practical, kinaesthetic, hands-on study of the human body’s innate intelligence, coordination, movement, embodied awareness, and habitual patterning. The work exists within a judgement-free and curiosity-forward paradigm that recognizes that our system is always responding brilliantly to a set of conditions.

  • The foundations of the modality rest on the understanding that all patterns are simultaneously psychological, emotional, physical, and social, and that the body is an accessible doorway into all of those facets at once. It supports increased consciousness of these patterns through developing heightened kinesthetic awareness.

  • Through a collaboration of sophisticated touch and guided attention, this work invites you to notice the rules, expectations, and habits you've accumulated in the body over time—offering tools to integrate imbalances and create more pathways towards ease. It brings presence and compassionate awareness to these previously subconscious experiences, and invites choice into how they shape your daily life.

  • The experience can feel a bit like a cross of individually tailored movement education, somatic therapy, and bodywork (though it doesn’t really fit in any one of those categories!). Together we learn what support your system needs to feel safer, freer, more flexible, grounded, and self-agent. Curiosity and a willingness to play inside the unfamiliar make this process a joyful life study.
